Stop TB

The Global Plan to Stop TB was unveiled in early 2006, but cannot be implemented due to a funding gap of $30.8 billion. If fully funded the plan would promote research to protect us in the United States from currently untreatable XDR tuberculosis as well as treat 14 million people for MDR tuberculosis and 3 million people for AIDS, in the process saving countless lives. The goal of the Stop TB strategy is ultimately to eliminate the disease by 2050. Watch the Flash video below for more information:

Representative (now Senator) Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced the Stop Tuberculosis (TB) Act of 2006 to the House of Representatives last year. The bill was referred to committee but never came to vote. This year EndPovertyToday.com is leading a campaign to have the bill reintroduced and passed in Congress. The bill will provide at least $485 million in funding for the Global Plan over the next two years and save thousands of lives. The vast majority of Americans support the bill; we only need to rally the political will to pass it.

Our campaign has two components:

  1. The Stop TB Online Petition
  2. Stop TB Petition for Representative Ginny Brown-Waite

To support the campaign simply sign the online petition and get as many friends to as possible. Post a bulletin (copy this one) on MySpace to get more friends to sign, and ask them to repost the bulletin so their friends will sign. If you want to volunteer to help gather signatures for the petition to Ginny Brown-Waite, please write to us through the Contact Us page.
